damaged wood table

Uh Oh On My Furniture

Furniture repair is a tricky business. I recently read this blog on repairing a wood floor: http://gmctradesecrets.aol.com/diy/how-to-repair-scratches-in-hardwood-floors/?icid=maing-grid10|htmlws-main-bb|dl3|sec1_lnk3%26pLid%3D293621

While this type of repair does appear to be a good solution for the floors, I wouldn’t really recommend it for a kitchen table. Kitchen tables get a lot of use and abuse, especially when you have children who use it every day. When you have wood furniture that is damaged it is best to consult a furniture repair person. The reason being, you may not know what the specs are for your table, and all wood is not the same, nor would you want to treat all finishes equal. If the table has a polyurethane finish then you would treat it differently than a catalyzed lacquer finish. Paying a furniture repair person may be costly, but it might be better than buying a new table. If the repair estimate is too expensive, some furniture stores will sell you a table top only, which could save you hundreds of dollars.

All this to say, if you aren’t positive that you know what to do, ask a someone who does. You don’t want to make it worse.
